The merging of design studio and laboratory is generating new forms of environmentally adaptive architecture, which look at replicating nature or using living organisms to create environments that are responsive and informative.

Innovative collaborations between design, science and technology is shaping future architecture, informing new concepts of synthetic 'skins' and intelligent interaction that enable a more seamless connection with our environment.

While nature has always inspired the shape and form of buildings, the growth in biological research is enabling designers to create 'living' walls that are not only functional and aesthetically interesting, but allow us to engage and interact with our space, and can be used as sensory indicators to translate information such as air quality.
